Software companies have created various programs to make it easier for companies to take advantage of new ACH processing rules, however most of these companies have created software that focuses on a single payment type, such as checks by phone, or check by web. Typically this software only creates the originating ACH item, but it does not have any way to automate the process if the item fails.  Since most companies use multiple ACH payments types, companies are forced to rely on multiple software packages to manage ACH processing and are often forced to manage returned or failed items manually.
